January Book Club

Time for a new feature. A book club of sorts.

Magic Mavens who get my emails every other week or so know I often share books by other authors. You can sign up for my emails here, so that you get them too.

I thought it would be nice to share the books that I recommend in my emails on my website at the end of the month. From now on, you can expect to see a book club post on the last Friday of the month 🙂

April is convalescing after an accident when she finds herself embroiled in a mystery where things go missing.

Is there a thief amongst them and is he or she a danger to her and others around her?

And what if she also found her lost love … but only in her dreams?

She is not safe there at Arcana Lodge and is in danger of being next on the thief’s list. She must protect her precious pearls.

You will love this romantic mystery if you care about those who have the courage to face their fears to get justice in the fight against greed, and if you like stories of love that tug at your heartstrings.

Read it today.

This month I read Witch Under Pressure by Karen McSpade.

Magic in this witch’s family has a name: Trouble.

Quirky characters. An enchanting town. A cat that talks. This bestselling magical mystery series has it all, like you’ve never read before!

Welcome to Crystal Beach, an enchanting town with a dangerous secret. When psychic witch Sidney Grace uncovers a crime spree plaguing the town, she’s ready to try her hand at a little magic to figure out whodunit.

But before she can cast another bad spell, Ada-Mae enrolls her in a school of magic.

“What? Enrolled me? Into a school for witches? But I’m too old to be in school!” Her cat Mojo agrees…until he finds himself in his own predicament.

Struggling to control her powers and navigate her new life, Sidney is drawn into a mystery that hits close to home. Even her dad senses the danger lurking near Mystic Dunes. Too bad the handsome Chief of Police doesn’t believe in magic!

A villain determined to get their hands on the magical item at any cost pushes Sidney to team up with her spell-happy grandmother, a snarky cat, and a cast of quirky residents to solve the case. But as she gets closer to the truth, she discovers the magical item is more powerful and dangerous than these witches ever imagined.

Brimming with humor, hints of romance, family drama, and magical spells gone hilariously wrong, Witch Under Pressure is an absolutely addictive standalone cozy mystery with a supernatural twist.

Grab your copy today and immerse yourself in this spellbinding mystery adventure!

This one’s the sixth book in the series, and while I haven’t read the first five yet, you can bet that I will now.

The book starts off when Sidney and her crazy grandmother buy some statues at the open-air market on the beach, things take a suddenly weird turn when just by touching her grandmother’s statue a weird reaction takes place and a cloud of smoke appears. What’s going on with her grandmother’s statue. Then, when it goes missing, who took it and why?

So, first I have to say, I loved the beach town setting. In another life, I would have been a beach bum, if I weren’t landlocked in Central California. Haha.

Sidney lives in a van at the beach, for now, though the ongoing mystery through the series thread seems to be the shady real estate guy wanting her to buy/rent a house and also what is he doing?

As for me, I should have gone to a beach town for college instead of UC Davis. I mean, don’t get me wrong, Davis is awesome, but as a swimmer, former lifeguard, and summer baby—and someone with seasonal allergies, the Central Valley is not the best place for me.

I dream about living in a beach town like Crystal Beach. Too bad they are so expensive.

Maybe I’ll retire to a beach town in a country with a lower cost of living one day.

Next, Ada-Mae is hilarious. There’s all kinds of crazy chaos and wild magic. When an attraction spell goes wrong, the cats come out to play. And the magic school and unpredictable magic are a hoot.

Magic Mavens can vote which story I’ll read next month on my Ream Page. I’ve got two books to choose from that are free in exchange for an email address.
